Your recordings stay on your device
Online Voice Recorder collects no data. Your recordings, your transcripts, and the speech-to-text step all stay on your computer. There is no server in the middle.
01The short version
Install it, record, and everything you create lives on your own machine. We do not run an account system, we do not upload your audio, and we do not track how you use the extension. There is nothing for you to log into and nothing of yours for us to hold.
02What the extension collects
Nothing. Online Voice Recorder does not send your recordings, transcripts, settings, or usage to us or to any third party. We have no database of users and no record of what you record.
03Where your recordings and transcripts live
Recordings and transcripts are stored on your device:
- While you work, recordings and their transcripts are kept in your browser's local storage on this computer.
- Finished audio files are saved to your Downloads folder, like any other download.
You can delete a recording from inside the extension at any time. When you do, it is removed from your device, including the matching file in your Downloads folder where the browser allows it.
04Microphone and tab-capture permissions
The extension asks for microphone access and for permission to capture tab audio. These are used only for the recordings you start, and only while you are recording. The captured audio is written to your device. It is never streamed to us.
Capturing a tab records the sound that tab is already playing on your computer. It does not join a call, and it does not announce itself to other people in a meeting.
05Transcription runs on your device
Turning a recording into text happens locally. The speech model downloads to your browser once, and after that it runs on your computer. Your audio is not uploaded to be transcribed, so the text is produced without your recording leaving the device.
06Optional Chrome on-device speech
For the live transcript, the extension can use Chrome's own on-device speech recognition where your browser provides it. That recognition is run locally by Chrome on your computer. As with the built-in model, this path does not send your audio to us.
07This website
This site, onlinevoicerecorder.xyz, does not set analytics or advertising cookies from us, and it does not profile visitors. It exists to describe the extension and to host this policy.
08What we share or sell
Nothing. Because we do not collect your recordings, transcripts, or usage in the first place, there is nothing for us to share, sell, or hand to a third party.
09Your rights
Privacy laws such as the GDPR, UK GDPR, and CCPA give you rights to access and delete personal data a company holds about you. Online Voice Recorder holds none, so there is nothing on our side to retrieve or erase. The recordings and transcripts on your device are yours, and you can delete them yourself from inside the extension or from your Downloads folder. If you have a question, you can always email us.
10Children
Online Voice Recorder is intended for users 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children, because the extension does not collect data at all.
11Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. The current version always lives here.
